“Mango Tango”, “Cyber Grape” and “Asparagus” weren’t on the plates of 2021 NCYC-ers, but
crayons in their hands coloring for a cause.
Over 130 teens participated in the first Goodness Reigns coloring contest, sending cheerful
messages to GR’s adopted brick kiln community on the outskirts of Faisalabad, Pakistan.
Congratulations to our two winners: Morgan Sandzimier of Greensburg, PA, and Reagan Van
Dy of Shelbyville, KY. Morgan’s name was pulled from a stocking full of participant names by
Catholic musician Hannah Schaefer. Reagan’s artistic coloring garnered her our top coloring
prize. Each won an adventure camera.
The coloring page was inspired by a Nativity scene painted in 1669 by Portuguese artist Josefa
de Óbidos. Her rendering was re-imagined by Mayteana Williams, an emerging artist and recent
graduate from Spalding University’s studio arts program in Louisville, KY.
Artwork by a Portuguese artist was chosen to draw attention to the next World Youth Day slated
for 2023 in Portugal. In the summer of 2022, Goodness Reigns plans to launch its fifth “Share
the Story” Short Film Contest with winning films to be part of WYD.
The Goodness Reigns team wishes to thank all of those who participated in its 2021 NCYC
Coloring Contest or stopped by the booth to say hello. Your smiles, energy and faith warmed our
hearts!
May the gift of Christ’s presence be present with you and given through you!
